Figure Skate Chicago participated in the city’s Chinese New Year Lantern Festival activities by performing at the Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Our skaters had a great time performing for the general public. We appreciate all the help from Qiu Yue Jin who taught our skaters basic Chinese dance arm movements in preparation for the performance. We’d also like to thank our team coach and choreographer Larissa Bonillo for creating beautiful group routines for this unique performance on ice.

CGTN America was on deck to capture the highlights of the day, including our very own skaters!

Our participation in the festivities was made possible by an invitation from the Chinese Fine Arts Society. We are grateful for the invitation and for all the skater costumes and accessories loaned to us from Qiu Yue Jin’s collection which represents a wide range of dynasties and ethnic populations from China. Some of the skater costumes can be seen in our photo gallery below.
