Lessons
We offer private lessons, group lessons, and summer camps.
Private Lessons
Private lessons are available to skaters of all ages and all levels, no experience needed. Our professional coaches cater to a variety of skating needs, including beginners learning to ice skate, advanced skaters developing freestyle skills, competitive skaters mastering their figure skating routines, and hockey skaters wanting to improve their edges and speed on the ice. We also teach adults who are brand new beginners or who are getting back into the sport for fitness.
Private lessons take place at multiple ice rinks throughout Chicago. Interested in signing-up with a friend? Then book a semi-private lesson for two skaters with one coach. We recommend using the Figure Skate Chicago app to book private and semi-private lessons conveniently on the go.
Group Lessons
Group lessons are available for children ages 5 to 12 years old. They take place on Saturdays, in three different 10-week sessions throughout the year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Skaters spend one or two hours on ice per week learning and improving skating skills with guidance from multiple Figure Skate Chicago coaches. Once signed-up for a particular session, skaters are expected to attend all weekly lessons for that session. One private evaluation lesson is required before registering for group lessons.
Please note that we do not currently offer group lessons for adults or hockey skaters. We recommend those skaters sign-up for private or semi-private lessons instead to focus on their specific skating needs.

(Would you like to try summer camp for one day? Drop-ins are welcome!)
Our summer skating camp provides an opportunity for children aged 5 and up to enhance their mastery of skating skills through on-ice and off-ice training. Beginner and intermediate skaters work on technical skills to advance to higher skating levels, while competitive skaters spend time working on their freestyle routines. Brand new beginner skaters are welcome.
While we train hard during summer camp, we also make sure that our young skaters are having fun as they gain confidence and build friendships.
On the last day of summer camp, skaters are invited to participate in a skating exhibition as parents/guardians watch from the bleachers (bring your cameras!). Afterwards, we celebrate with a bowling and pizza party at Diversey River Bowl.
Daily schedule:
- 8:15am – 8:45am: warm-up at Johnny’s IceHouse East.
- 9:00am – 11:00am: on-ice training at Johnny’s IceHouse East.
- 11:00am – 1:00pm: off-ice training at Skinner Park on Monroe St.

Virtual Off-Ice Classes
Figure skating requires strength in every part of the body: strong legs for jumping and landing, strong arms for balance, and strong core for coordination. We offer virtual off-ice conditioning classes on request to help skaters improve their balance, coordination, and strength. Please email us to schedule a virtual off-ice class.
